HNS Expired Name Premium Pricing Model
Effective immediately, HNS will be introducing a temporary premium pricing structure for 1-5 character names that expire and are not renewed within their 30-day grace period by their existing owners. Inspired by the Ethereum Name Service (ENS), this model is designed to apply a premium to shorter character length names should they fall out of their grace periods without being renewed.
Moving forward, expired names that leave their grace period unrenewed, will follow an exponential decay price curve premium, gradually decreasing to their standard in-market prices over the subsequent 30-day window.
Temporary Premium Pricing Structure
For names with 5 characters or fewer, the following temporary premium pricing will apply over the 30-day period following falling out of grace period:
- 1-Year Renewal: Starting at $100 million, exponentially decreasing to $25 in 30 days time.
- 3-Year Renewal: Starting at $300 million, exponentially decreasing to $60 in 30 days time.
- 5-Year Renewal: Starting at $500 million, exponentially decreasing to $75 in 30 days time.
- 10-Year Renewal: Starting at $1 billion, exponentially decreasing to $100 in 30 days time.
This pricing structure reflects the increased value of shorter names. If the original owner does not renew within the grace period, the name will enter this new temporary premium pricing model.
6+ Character Names Remain Unaffected
For names with 6 or more characters, no temporary premium pricing will apply. Once these names fall out of their grace period, they will immediately revert to their standard market pricing:
- 1-Year Renewal: $10
- 3-Year Renewal: $15
- 5-Year Renewal: $20
- 10-Year Renewal: $40
This ensures that longer names become available at their usual rates without any price fluctuation after the grace period.

Impact on Expired Domains
For names 5 characters or fewer, the key change is the introduction of an exponentially decaying premium price immediately following the grace period ending. To avoid these temporary premium rates, current owners should renew their names at a minimum during the grace period.
Those looking to acquire expired names that have fallen out of their grace period can do so at any point along the price curve as it decays toward the standard open-market rate.
Good luck to all those in the market for many of the popular names that will become available for purchase on HNS shortly!
